Mechanism:lnhibitory effect on the activation of plasminogen in the fibrinolytic cycle i.e.conversion of plasminogen to plasmin.
Indications: risk of haemorrhage in increased fibrinolysis or fibrinogenolysis.
Local fibronolysis —IUCD insertion, ulcerative colitis, haematuria and any form of urinary tract surgery, particular prostatectomy, May be of value in certain GIT bleeding. Dental extractions in patients with haemophylia. Precautions: not used in active intravascular clotting because of the risk of thrombosis. Patients with a predis osition to thrombosis are at risk if given antiflbrinol ic thera
