Mcchanisno:Causes reversible CNS depression as with general anaesthetics. Sympathetic system is more depressed than the parasympathetic. Both systolic and diastolic pressures are reduced as & heart rate & cardiac output.
Coronary blood flow is reduced.
Uses: Inhalational anaesthesia. In operations where bloodless field is required
Side effects: Halothane depress C.V. system & reduces blood pressure; signs of overdosage : bradycardia It is also a respiratory depressant and can cause cardiac arrhythmias
Dosage:Adults Induction : upto 5% in air, oxygen or oxygen / nitrous oxide. Maintenance Dose 0..5 1.5%. Children:+lnitially give higher % 2.3% then maintain at 0.5 1%.
