Mechanism: acts as a selective inhibitor of activated factor X.
Uses: an anticoagulant in the management of venous thromboembolism . 2- for prophylaxis in abdominal and orthopaedic surgery. 3- it is also used for treatment of established thromboembolism
Precautions :as for Heparin calcium, not given to patients who have developed thrombocytopenia with Heparin calcium It is CIT: in severe renal impairment,and special care in patients with body-weight below 50 kg. Interactions:as for Heparin calcium
Dosage: in abdominal and orthopaedic surgery, 2.5 mg S.C. once daily, starting 6 to 8 hours after surgery and continued for at least 5 to 9 days, & up to 32 days in hip fracture. for prophylaxis in high-risk patients: once daily for 6 to 14±38
