Uses ttt of Bact. Sensitive to Erythromycin that cause : Upper& L.resp. tract infection Otitis media , throat Sinusitis & Gum infections Soft tissues & Urinary tract infection used as Penicillin alternative for whom sensitive to Penicillins
Precautions: Erythromycin and its derivatives should be avoided in those who have previously developed jaundice Interactions: Erythromycin and other macrolides have the potential to interact with a large number of drugs through their action on hepatic cytochrome P450 isoenzymes, Macrolides inhibit drug metabolism by microsomal cytochromes by competitive inhibition and by the formation of inactive complexes. Such interactions can result in severe adverse effects, including ventricular arrhythmias with astemizole, cisapride, and terfenadine. it is less likely to inhibit the he atic metabolism of other dru s althou h those under oin first- ass metabolism ma still be affected.
