GIT disturbances with doxycycline less frequent than with tetracycline and doxycycline & less tooth discoloratio Interactions The absorption reduced by divalent and trivalent cations such as aluminium, bismuth, calcium, im magnesium, and zinc, and therefore use of tetracyclines with antacids, iron preparations, some foods such as and dairy products... etc, whether as active ingredients or excipients, may result in subtherapeutic serum concentrations of the antibacterial. Sodium bicarbonate, colestipol, colestyramine, and kaolin-pectin are also reported to reduce tetracycline absorption, but potential reductions due to cimetidine or sucralfate are probably of little clinical significance. Uses: drug of choice in Acne vul aris & Trachoma of the Eye -Mycoplasma Chlamydia.
