Brimonidine is an alpha2-adrenoceptor agonist. It is used to lower intra-ocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension , as an alternative or adjunct to topical beta blocker therapy. It may also be used as adjunctive therapy in patients with raised intra-ocular pressure not controlled by topical monotherapy with other drugs such as latanoprost and travoprost. The reduction in intra-ocular pressure is maximal about 2 hours after topical use
Adverse effects: h»eraemia, lid retraction, mydriasis.may develop an exaggerated reduction in intra-ocular pressure.
